Here's how valentine's has gone for me over the past couple of years, and why I'm antivday now. 4 years ago today, I was at a concert with some friends that just happened to fall on feb 14, without actually being valentine's day related. This was fine by me, since I was never a fan of the day anyway. But, it just so happened that a friend of a friend who I had been flirting with more and more recently happened to get together that day, and we began dating thereafter. So, as time went on, valentine's day became both our anniversary, and the sepcial heart day with the chocolates and flowers and all the other crap that everyone else associates with it. So, I guess I really started to get into it after a couple of years, and became one of those yucky romantic people who goes all out on valentine's day, making all his friends really angry for making them look bad. Well, last year we were living in Japan, where only the women are supposed to give gifts to the men on vday, and the men return the gifts on mar 14, called "white day"; but since it was our anniversary, I decided to continue with the western style and give some gifts on vday anyway. I was the only man at the florist's, at the chocolatier's, at the stuffed toy store. I gave some wonderful gifts, which led (at least in part, anyway) to my girlfriend breaking up with me less than a month later, because (in her words) I "worshipped her too much", and my valentine's gifts were listed as proof. So, bam!, the end of my longest relationship ever, I returned to Canada, and now here I am, feb 14, single, having forgotten how to pursue girls (it really doesn't take that long!), and alone on valentine's day. Well, technically not alone, I'm in my parents' basement right now, which adds to the depression. Vday sucks. This website rules. Thanks for your time.
