If you went back to the Roman method then you would never have to worry about being single on this money making day for the different bussinesses associated with this day. If your single put your name in the vase and see who picks you for the rest of the year, who knows maybe that is why online matchmaking and such does so well... Seriously though if I forget to take my wife to dinner or buy her roses then I am in the dog house, yet this day after reading the article only came about to introduce a catholic theme to a pagen ritual... Hmmmmm sounds familiar the catholic church has been re-inventing and making new holidays everytime they came across a new pagen ritual... Why don't we just invent a new ritual, so we can have say another christmas, or easter, or halloween....

The "holiday" is also celebrated in Japan but completely differently.  On Valentine's Day, single women give white chocolates to men they like.  The whole idea was a commercial one to sell chocolate, introduced by a candy manufacturer.  It has given the dentists of Japan a whole new impetus.

i heard valentines day was because some saint was put in jail for marrying people (dont know why, cant be bothered to find out) while he was in there he fell in love with one of the servant girls, who also fell in love with him.
When it was time for him to be executed, he left a note in his cell for her to find
it said something like
blah blah blah
love you forever
etc etc
Your Valentine.

And thats where it all started.

There is such a thing as love. However because of the Halmark Holiday, people can't tell the difference. Feb/14 is just an excuse for presents, dinner out for free & sex. Many say that VD-Day is good for the soul...that is clearly a lie. Your soul can only become content on something true. Not some cheap day with a stupid materialistic meaning. This Valentine guy had the right idea, but I'm sure he'd spit in his own damn grave if he saw what had been done with his intentions. Vineral Disease Day blows.
