-    There were 119 unmarried men (i.e. never married, widowed, or
    divorced) ages 18 to 34 for every 100 unmarried women those ages
    in 1995. At older ages, however, the ratio reverses, to 105
    unmarried women for every 100 unmarried men among 35- to
    54-year-olds and 291 unmarried women for every 100 unmarried men
    among persons 55 and over.
      
   -    In 1995, 13.6 million persons 25 to 34 had never been married,
    representing 33 percent of all persons in this age group. The
    respective totals dropped to 5.9 million and 14 percent
         for those 35 to 44.

can we start a candy drive and send all these people a valentine?

That explains part of the problem why we don't have enough kids in the western world.   However, that's pretty sad, isn't it? And all these people are alone on the day where just everybody seems to be happy. Call me strange, but the Valentine's day is a pretty cruel one.
If the government can enforce seat-belts, why can't they ban this day?  
And then we could be a more productive on this day instead of wondering why the hell everybody on earth has somebody except for ourselves?
